Masel-Mulhouse Airport had to be temporarily closed on Thursday afternoon from 15:43 p.m. The reason is that a private plane suffered an engine fire and went off the runway.

The airport fire brigade was able to quickly extinguish the fire on the Piper PA-28 with the registration HB-PNP. As a precautionary measure, the three occupants of the private plane were taken to a hospital for examination.

However, flight operations were interrupted on both runways. First, the shorter cross runway 08/26 was released at 17:36 p.m. The 3.900-meter-long runway 15/33 followed around 19:45 p.m. Due to the incident and the resulting temporary closure, some scheduled flights had to be diverted or were only able to take off later.
