A so-called “wildcat strike” took place at Charleroi Airport on Sunday afternoon. This meant that numerous passengers could not reach their flights and some machines had to take off completely without passengers.
The work stoppages were not unionized or officially announced in advance. From around 14:30 p.m., numerous employees of the security company responsible for carrying out the security checks stopped work for around a week. As a result, the transition from the public area to the security area was de facto impossible for passengers.
According to eyewitnesses, the terminal at Charleroi Airport was hopelessly overcrowded. According to an airport spokesman, the "wildcat strike" has caused significant disruption. The fact that some machines left the airport empty, i.e. without passengers on board, was not commented on.
