Ben Smith confirms interest in Tap Air Portugal

The Portuguese government intends to privatize the airline Tap Air Portugal again shortly. Lufthansa and Air France-KLM are currently known to be potential buyers. Ben Smith, CEO of the last-named group of companies, confirmed once again that the carrier had an eye on it.

Actually, Tap Air Portugal was majority privatized a few years ago. In several steps, the state has again come to the controlling majority. They want to change that as quickly as possible and want to advertise the carrier for sale. Lufthansa and Air France-KLM are interested in a takeover.

AF-KL boss Ben Smith told the Reuters agency, among other things, that Tap Air Portugal's Brazil network in particular is of strategic importance for Air France-KLM. However, the manager did not give details such as the amount of a possible bid.
