In the coming weeks, the airports will be prepared for a large number of visitors. Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH also expects an increased volume of travel for the autumn holidays.

BER is preparing for around 900.000 passengers until the last day before school starts (October 24, 2021). It gets particularly busy on the holiday weekends, with peaks on Fridays and Sundays. On these two days, the passenger volume will be between 60.000 and 65.000 passengers. The busiest day is due to the start of the holiday, Friday, October 08th, 2021, on which a good 65.000 passengers are expected at BER.

In the autumn holidays 2021, around 50 percent of the passenger volume of the autumn holidays in the pre-pandemic year 2019 will be reached, when around 1,8 million passengers were still flying from Schönefeld and Tegel. However, compared to the autumn holidays 2020, when around 335.000 passengers were counted, holiday traffic has increased significantly.

Automated baggage drop-off

In this regard, BER is pulling along with the other airports: From now on, passengers can check in independently, print out their baggage label and check in the baggage themselves at the baggage carousel. With Easyjet, the Lufthansa Group, Eurowings, Air Baltic and Norwegian, several airlines are already offering their passengers this service in full or in part, according to the airport.

During the holiday period, 64 airlines fly to 137 destinations in 49 countries. The offer is almost 80 percent compared to the same period in 2019.
