The Bergbahn Kitzbühel, Kitzbühel Tourism and the Kitzbüheler Alpen – Brixental Tourist Association are pooling their resources in the ARGE Bike association and investing around 1,2 million euros in the expansion of the KitzBike trails, tours and infrastructure.

Modifications are necessary in order to be able to transport bikes with the Sonnenrast chairlift. Bergbahn Kitzbühel will also bear the costs incurred for this. The expansion of the practice area on the Mockingwiese in Kitzbühel is another initiative jointly with private Kitzbühel entrepreneurs.

Goal: Ecological and sustainable trails in the Alps

The Sonnenrast Trails are the first steps towards the development of a new and regulating offer to separate hikers and cyclists and to relieve traffic on the goods routes. The expansion of the KitzBike Trails takes place under the premise of sustainability and harmony on the mountain of all those involved or the common brand umbrella "Green Mountains". The careful handling of nature, the control of visitor flows, the refueling of the construction machines on the mountain exclusively with plant-generated HVO fuel as well as the ecological construction supervision by the recognized expert Mag. Irmgard Silberberger are obligatory for those responsible at ARGE Bike. The strategic development process to promote soft mobility is accompanied by Allegra Tourismus Österreich GmbH and supported by the LEADER program. The cooperation with the stakeholders from hunting, forestry, agriculture, the property owners and the Tyrolean environmental ombudsman was exemplary.

Flow and single trail riding – (almost) as popular as skiing

The KitzBike Trails are already among the 28 renowned international bike destinations of the well-known Gravity Card. With the expansion of the KitzBike Trails, the ARGE partners Kitzbühel, Kirchberg and KitzSki use the existing winter infrastructure and thus offer the sporty locals and guests an additional, family-friendly and sustainable offer in summer. Thanks to the extensions, the total length of the KitzBike Trails will be 30 km, which can also be easily reached with the KitzSki summer lifts. Hikers also benefit: you can – now new – use the Sonnenrast chairlift on the way back from the Pengelstein as an ascent aid. Active children experience exciting hours on their bikes in the specially designed family bike area in Streiteck Mulde. Those who are interested can get professional support with biking in the local bike schools. The planned opening of the T01 Sonnenrast Trail and the Family Bike Area is on Saturday, July 22, 2023. Note: The date may vary depending on the weather and the progress of construction.

New: Kitz Ski & Bike Card

The KitzSki & Bike Card is ideal for all those who want to combine biking in summer and skiing in winter. Bike transport with the Hahnenkammbahn, Fleckalmbahn, Gaisberg and Sonnenrast chairlifts and the magic carpet in the Streiteckmulde are included in the purchase price of the KitzSki & Bike Card. Like the conventional KitzSki Card, it is valid from the date of purchase and is available until June 30, 2023 at a super advance sale price.
