After the lockdown and the associated termination of numerous connections, the number of passengers also collapsed in Schönefeld and Tegel. The operator is now seeing an upward trend again.
Air traffic in Schönefeld and Tegel has increased noticeably again. Around 8.000 passengers are currently handled daily at both airports. Compared to last week, before the travel warning was lifted for the EU countries as well as four other Schengen states and Great Britain, the number of passengers has more than doubled.
Even before the start of the holiday, 31 airlines fly from Schönefeld and Tegel to 52 destinations in 31 countries. At the beginning of July, the number of routes will increase again significantly. The number of daily guests will then regularly be well over 10.000 and will continue to rise in the weeks thereafter. It is expected that around 70 destinations will be offered this summer.
“All of us, including the airlines and Berlin airports, are registering a noticeable increase in willingness to travel. We are pleased that the airlines have responded quickly and extensively to the lifting of travel restrictions in Europe. Air traffic has increased considerably in the last few days, and the airlines are significantly increasing their offerings. After weeks of standstill, this is a good sign for the airport location, the economy and tourism in the capital region ”, says Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH.
