Due to a decision by the Austrian Ministry of Transport, Klagenfurt Airport has to swing chainsaws and other equipment and prune or, in some cases, even remove the trees in the western approach lane. This is evident from this document. Implementation was imposed on the city.
The ministry believes the plants are too tall and could pose a threat to air traffic. Since most of the trees are on public land, the city of Klagenfurt was required to carry out this work. According to a regional newspaper, there are 21 plants on the area of a kindergarten. These trees could now be sawed off.
The horticultural department of the provincial capital of Carinthia announced that the workers will move out in the next few days and carry out the cut or, in some cases, the sawing. For trees that fall victim to the decision, new ones are to be planted in autumn 2021.
