After the German Football Association received a basket from Qatar Airways, they are now trying to persuade Lufthansa to extend the sponsorship contract. The DFB is obviously out to get free flight options with special flights. This is exactly what the crane cut in the course of the corona pandemic.

Football manager Oliver Bierhoff said in an interview with “Welt am Sonntag” that the Presidium now wants to negotiate with Lufthansa about a possible extension of the sponsorship contract. The contract ends next year and so far there has been a signal from the crane that it does not want to continue this. In particular, Lufthansa no longer wants to operate free special flights. This was already evident at the recent European Championship and the DFB switched to Klasjet. Bierhoff also said that they are interested in “long-term partnerships” and “jointly design and implement initiatives and projects for football development”.

Apparently one had hoped that Bayern-Munich sponsor Qatar Airways could also be interested in a cooperation with the DFB. But this is not the case. When asked about the criticism of human rights in Qatar, Bierhoff told Welt am Sonntag: “The team stands up for its values, an attitude is important, the players are absolutely aware of their role model role. It is right to make a mark. But we should be careful not to do this in an inflationary way so that the messages can also be heard and not become arbitrary. One thing is clear: we will continue to stand up for human rights. Human rights are not negotiable ”.
