Bihać, a city in the northwest of Bosnia-Herzegovina, traversed by the Una River, wants to have its own airport. But you don't have the money for it, which is why the authorities expect construction to take around 30 years. If private investors can be found, the project could be completed in two to four years.

After the government gave the green light for the construction, things got straight to the point: a 300 meter concrete slab was built to simulate the future 2.200 meter runway. Of course, access roads to the future terminal have already been laid out, but far and wide only meadows can be seen. No wonder, because the local authorities put the project costs at around 25 million euros. But you don't have the money and therefore a new airport with runway, apron, taxiways, control tower, terminal and so on cannot be built in Bihać within a maximum of four years. But now you have a 300 meter long and not exactly beautiful concrete slab standing around in the middle of the landscape. And of course the already mentioned streets that currently end in nowhere.

The local media couldn't really give a conclusive answer to why an airport is actually being built even though the necessary financial resources are not available and who actually needs this airport. The following phrases are used succinctly, which are used in every new building in the green field: The airport would be extremely important for the development of the region. Of course, nobody can know whether this will still be the case in 30 years' time. In any case, the runway simulation in the form of the unsightly concrete slab will certainly be a renovation case by then. In any case, the opening has already been postponed several times and due to lack of money, the 2023 deadline announced in the previous year will probably not be kept. Apart from the concrete slab and the streets, both of which are said to have cost 1,1 million euros together, there is nothing. Except for meadows and the view of the Una.
