In the last few days, Austrian Airlines has had to deal with an unusually high number of Airbus A320 breakdowns. For example, the OE-LBY is stranded at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport.

A total of three A320s are currently "AOG" for completely different reasons. The operator explains: "The incidents are not related and, as can be seen from the following three cases, there is also no accumulation of irregularities in the A320 machine".

Backup system and cockpit fan provide two AOGs

But one thing at a time: The first machine “stranded” on September 10, 2021. The cause according to AUA: “During commissioning or when checking the back-up brake system of a machine, it was found that the hydraulic pressure of a cylinder on the foot pedals is lower than displayed the other. Even if it concerns the backup system, a repair was arranged to be on the safe side ”.

It hit another Airbus A320 on the same day, as a company spokeswoman confirmed. The reason for this AOG, however, is completely different: "On the same day (10.09.) The fan in the cockpit of another machine was unfortunately defective, which is why a return landing in Vienna was carried out as a precaution - as planned in such cases".

Berlin passenger boarding bridge damaged AUA-A320

The OE-LBY then made an involuntary and rough encounter with the gangway at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport on September 15, 2021. This was not an everyday occurrence and damaged the Airbus A320. A spokeswoman for Austrian Airlines said: “When the incident on 15.9. the passenger boarding bridge in Berlin damaged the plane. OE-LBY is currently in Berlin to clarify the scope of the necessary repairs internally and with the manufacturer ”.

In conclusion, the media officer emphasized to Aviation Direct: “The safety of our passengers and employees is always our top priority. If an error message occurs with a machine, it is checked immediately and the aircraft remains on the ground until the cause has been checked or the malfunction has been rectified. "

I can only confirm the above statement.
In my 38-year career as a flight refueling attendant, I got the impression that AUA is one of the safest airlines. So I flew with Austrian Airlines, if possible, because I had no problem with security at an altitude of 10 meters, which were worth a few euros more.
    Keep it up!
