The in-house start-up of Bolzano Airport, Skyalps, suffers the first setback: In the absence of demand, the connection to the capital Rome will be discontinued on August 30, 2021. Berlin and Düsseldorf will remain in the program until at least the end of October 2021.

The airport in South Tyrol had no regular scheduled flights for several years. The new owners of Bolzano Airport founded the subsidiary Skyalps, which operates some routes through the Maltese Luxwing. Basically, they want to make the offer more incoming-oriented, but managing director Josef Gostner told Alto Adige that, for example, Olbia is very much in demand in both directions.

The manager also said that there were around 800 passengers on the weekends. Gostner describes the results of the current summer as a test run, because the focus is on winter business. They want to fly skiers to South Tyrol and thus increase the occupancy of the hotels that are owned by the airport and Skyalps. Especially potential vacationers from Germany are in view.
