The Brazilian airline Azul converted some Embraer-195s into temporary freighters in the wake of the corona pandemic. Now the cargo business wants to rely on this pattern permanently and has announced that a total of eight E195 freighters should be in the air by the end of the year.
The company justifies the step with the fact that the Embraer regional jets have proven themselves in the cargo area and their capacities are in demand. Azul Cargo Express was also created as a kind of "stopgap solution" in the course of the corona pandemic, in order to at least be able to transport goods. While other carriers have withdrawn from the "Makeshift" business, Azul continues to rely on it.
Eight Embraer 195 are now being permanently converted into cargo aircraft. CFO Alex Malfitani confirmed this to Aeroin. However, a few details still need to be clarified with the aviation authority and manufacturer Embraer, because, for example, the board kitchens are to be removed and cargo doors installed. Approval is required for this.
