The low-cost airlines Ryanair and Wizzair have also drastically cut their winter flight schedules at the Slovakian capital's airport in Bratislava. The two carriers are the main customers of the airport, which means that there will be significantly less air traffic in the cold season.
As reported, Wizzair withdrew temporarily back from Salzburg and continued the red pen in Vienna so that the presence in Austria in the 2020/21 winter flight schedule will be significantly reduced. The Ryanair Group stroked again in Viennaso that the subsidiary Lauda has significantly fewer flight orders, because all flights are operated under the Ryanair DAC code in the so-called wet lease.
From Bratislava, Ryanair will be heading for three more destinations in the upcoming 2020/21 winter flight schedule: Dublin, London-Stansted and Manchester. All other destinations were canceled or put on a “Corona winter break”. The Irish lowcoster is by far the largest customer of the Slovak capital airport. A base is maintained on site and several Boeing 737-800 aircraft are stationed. It is still completely unclear what impact the deforestation will have on local staff. Ryanair indicated in a press release that jobs are to be cut across the network.
The competitor Wizzair only serves the destination London-Luton continuously. All other routes are already paused and have been announced for resumption in December 2020, although due to the entry and quarantine regulations of Slovakia there are big question marks about one or the other destination. The destination Kiev-Schuljany is temporarily suspended and has been announced for a possible resumption on December 6, 2020. The Hungarian Wizzair will therefore not be present at all in Bratislava for at least around six weeks, because London-Luton is served by the British sister company Wizzair UK.
The announced resumptions: Sofia (December 6, 2020), Skopje (December 4, 2020), St. Petersburg (December 4, 2020), Kiev-Schuljany (December 6, 2020), Lviv (December 5, 2020) and Odessa ( December 6, 2020). The actual implementation will depend both on the further development of the pandemic and on approvals and orders from the Slovak government, as flights to / from various countries are still officially prohibited.
