On November 6, 2024, a British Airways Airbus A380 had to abort its scheduled transatlantic flight from London Heathrow to Miami shortly after takeoff. A technical problem with the oil circuit of one engine led the pilots to decide to temporarily abort the flight.

After the abort, the pilots began to burn the excess fuel over the English Channel to enable a safe return to Heathrow Airport. The aircraft, which was originally intended to provide a fast connection to Miami, returned safely to London Heathrow after about 3 hours and 20 minutes in the air. According to reports from "Flightradar24", the aircraft flew in several loops to carry out the fuel jettison.
