Bristol: Jet2 puts two wheelchair users on Menorca instead of Mallorca flight

Mallorca, Menorca, you can mix them up? But it shouldn't happen to an airline. But that's exactly what happened to two elderly passengers from Bristol when they mistakenly boarded a flight to Menorca - instead of Mallorca.

The two passengers were looked after by a so-called PRM service due to their age. In concrete terms, this means that specially trained employees accompany you in your wheelchairs to the plane. A mistake was made: Instead of being put on the Jet2 flight from Bristol to Palma de Mallorca (PMI), they were taken to the one to Mahon (Menorca, MAH). The two older people claim to the British media that they only realized after landing that they had landed on the “wrong” Balearic island. Not surprisingly, there was no PRM service available because no PRM travelers were expected.

The two passengers did not want to hear the announcements on board, in which the crew repeatedly used the word “Menorca”. This could possibly be because if you don't listen carefully, it sounds at least something similar anyway.

However, “onward transport” to Palma de Mallorca was not so easy. The two travelers first had to fly back to Bristol and were then put on another Jet2 plane bound for Palma de Mallorca. It actually worked on the second attempt, but the two wheelchair users are still mad at Jet2 because they deliberately booked a non-stop flight and not a Bristol-Menorca-Bristol-Mallorca trip.

The airline concerned responded to the two passengers' complaints and admitted that an error had occurred. The PRM service provider accidentally brought the wheelchair users to the plane and for unspecified reasons, when counting the passengers to Menorca, it was not noticed that there were two PRMs on board, which are not actually on the passenger list. The affected passengers even claim that a flight attendant took the boarding passes in her hand to check them. If this representation is true, it is extremely questionable why the error was not noticed at this moment at the latest.

But that's not all: While the passengers were initially flown to Mahon by mistake, their luggage reached Palma de Mallorca Airport. This subsequently led to problems because, according to those affected, it would have been complicated to get the suitcases back after actually arriving on the larger of the two Balearic islands. Jet2 did not want to comment on this matter.
