IAG group member British Airways is initiating the early phasing out of the Boeing 747-400 sub-fleet. The first machine was flown to Spain from Heathrow on Tuesday to be scrapped.

The corona crisis has resulted in the original plan being discarded. British Airways actually didn't want to flee the four-jet engines until 2024. This has now been accelerated and in future it will mainly rely on Boeing 787 and AIrbus A350. The “mini-jumbo”, Airbus A318, which was in use on the London City-New York route, has meanwhile left the fleet. The route was served in pure business class seating and will be abandoned for good.
