IAG group member British Airways was able to negotiate a deal with the unions for the cabin and cockpit staff at the London Gatwick site. Negotiations are only ongoing with the ground staff, said IAG boss Luis Gallego.

Independently of this, the establishment of a new subsidiary for Gatwick will continue. Compared to Bloomberg, the manager emphasized that it is expressly not a “new low-cost airline”, but a “more efficient platform”. The compromise that was reached with the employee representatives provides, among other things, for new employment contracts to be concluded.

At times, British Airways threatened to withdraw from Gatwick because management claims that they had flown in losses on short and medium-haul routes for years. After this the closure was announced was still able to work with the unions an agreement can be reached.
