The Boeing 787-10 will play an important role on British Airways' long-haul routes in the future, but on Wednesday a brand-new Dreamliner was transferred to long-time storage in Victorville. Only two units are currently in use.
The fourth machine, which is currently in the final test phase, could remain in the parking lot for an indefinite period immediately after delivery. The procedure is not that unusual at the moment, because Etihad Airways, for example, has been mothballing brand-new Airbus A350-1000s at a French airport for a long time.
British Airways actually wanted to take over six Boeing 2020-787s in 10. However, two machines were delivered and these were delayed on top of that. The first unit was taken over at the end of June 2020 and the second on July 1, 2020. Immediately after the takeover, number three flew to storage in Victorville.
