British Airways, a member of the IAG Group, intends to double the fleet based at London Gatwick Airport to up to 28 aircraft. The background is that the aim is to reduce costs due to a further increase in fees at the home base Heathrow.

British Airways is currently using 14 aircraft from the second largest airport in the British capital. These are operated by BA Euroflyer, which was launched during the Corona pandemic. Furthermore, one or the other wet lease aircraft is in use.

According to a report by the "Sunday Times", the carrier wants to expand its presence in Gatwick, in particular because of an impending fee increase at Heathrow. It is currently planned that 24 to 28 commercial aircraft will be stationed at Gatwick in the future. The ongoing problems such as the passenger limit are said to have influenced this decision.
