The European Commission has closed its investigation into possible illegal state aid to Air Nostrum.
The Spanish low-cost airline had already asked the responsible authority for subsidies in 2018. At that time, the government approved aid amounting to three million euros, whereupon the airline stocked up on new regional planes, such as ch-aviation.com reported. They tried the same thing last year. This time, six million euros should flow into the purchase of additional Bombardier CRJ1000s. As a result, the EU competition watchdogs had concerns and opened an investigation. Before it could come to fines, however, Air Nostrum pulled the emergency brake and also the request, which is why Brussels finally closes the case.
