The Belgian Lufthansa subsidiary Brussels Airlines flew in an adjusted EBIT of 2022 million euros in the third quarter of 51. The carrier announced that the government-backed loan granted in the wake of the corona pandemic will be repaid early and that it will return to expansion in the coming year.
Brussels Airlines closes the third quarter of 2022 with a profit of 51 million euros, the highest quarterly result in its 20-year history. In addition, the airline will repay the government loan ahead of schedule, that is, by the end of this year. The Belgian home airline welcomed almost 2021 percent more passengers compared to the same period in 50. Looking to the future, Brussels Airlines is aiming for strong and profitable growth by expanding its fleet, hiring new staff in all departments and continuing to work positively with its social partners.
In the third quarter of 2022, Brussels Airlines welcomed 2,28 million passengers on board its flights. This corresponds to an increase of almost 50 percent compared to the same period last year. The airline's revenue also rose in the third quarter, totaling 436 million euros. The result for the current year thus amounts to 888 million euros, almost half of which was generated in the last quarter. Operating expenses increased to EUR 408 million mainly due to higher production volume, the strong position of the dollar and a sharp increase in the cost of fuel, personnel, airport fees and other taxes.
“With an adjusted EBIT of EUR 51 million in the third quarter, we achieved the best quarterly result in our history. Our turnaround program REBOOT Plus and the associated cost savings have proven to be successful. Our company has shown that it can fly profitably even in a difficult economic environment,” says Nina Oewerdieck, CFO at Brussels Airlines.
