In the first month of the new year, Brussels Airport registered more than 1,3 million passengers, an increase of 66 percent compared to January 2022. The airport is still around 20 percent short of reaching the pre-crisis level.

According to the airport, the Christmas holidays had a positive effect on passenger numbers. Travelers were mainly drawn to the United States, Turkey and Morocco. The 2019 level was even exceeded on these routes.

In contrast, the volume of freight at Brussels Airport fell by 2022 percent compared to the same month of 12. This decline is partly due to the Chinese New Year celebrations, but ongoing geopolitical tensions are also having an impact on cargo volumes. Asia remains the largest import and export region. Africa ranks second for imports, followed by North America.
