Bulgaria: Varna and Burgas with 3,7 million travelers

The Varna and Burgas airports operated by Fraport had a total of around 3,7 million passengers last year. This meant an increase of 18 percent in direct comparison to the previous period.

On July 26, 2023, Varna Airport welcomed the 1.000.001 passenger of the year, with 44 airlines operating flight programs to 68 destinations from the airport for the entire year. More than 1,8 million passengers were handled, an increase of 24% compared to 2022, but still -12% of 2019 levels! The following five countries handled the most passengers from Germany (576k), Bulgaria (229k), the United Kingdom (181k), Poland (150k) and Austria (134k). The top five destinations from Varna were Sofia (Bulgaria), London (UK), Vienna (Austria), Istanbul (Turkey) and Tel Aviv (Israel). Last year, charter flights were operated to a number of routes - Lille (France), Krakow (Poland), Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic), Aalborg (Denmark), Bergen (Norway), Djerba (Tunisia), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Brussels (Belgium), Pristina (Kosovo) and Girona (Spain) – as well as five new airlines that flew to Varna Airport. A total of 13.850 flight movements were handled at the airport, of which 10.169 were scheduled flights and 2.367 were charter flights. Katowice, Warsaw, Poznan (Poland), Leipzig and Hanover (Germany) were the five destinations served by the most charter flights. The busiest months last year were June, July and August, with August 1 being the busiest day with 16 passengers. A total of 994 tons of cargo were handled during the year. The airlines that carried the most passengers at Varna Airport in 62 were.
