At the request of Switzerland, the Austrian Armed Forces deployed around 22 soldiers between 26 and 2022 May 1.000 to increase airspace security. The focus was also on temporary flight restrictions over parts of Tyrol and Vorarlberg.

"I was able to personally convince myself of the perfect cooperation between Switzerland and Austria and I would like to express my particular appreciation to our air force. We will very quickly conclude further agreements with other neighboring countries in order to further improve the security of our population against non-military threats from the air," says Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner, summing up the situation positively.

The pilots logged 239 flight hours in 241 missions. These included, among other things, patrol flights for surveillance, flights to identify airspace violations, transports and "cross-border operations" within the framework of the state treaty between the Republic of Austria and the Swiss Confederation regarding cooperation in the field of cross-border airspace security. There were 8 airspace violations in total. These were pilots who had not complied with the restricted flight area. In all cases, the army established the identity and clarified the situation.

From the ground in Vorarlberg, mobile radar stations, fire control equipment and air traffic control squads from the Air Force monitored all operations in the air. This data was transmitted directly to the Operations Center Basisraum (EZB) in Pongau via mobile radio systems. 20 aircraft, including ten fixed-wing aircraft and ten helicopters, were used in the air. This ensured that it was possible to react to both slow and fast-flying targets at all altitudes.
