The Wizz Air Group intends to expand its fleet to over 200 aircraft this year. By the year 2030, the aim is to have around 500 machines. The carrier believes that demand in the low-cost segment will continue to grow strongly.
Currently, the Wizz Air Group fleet consists of 155 aircraft registered on the AOCs of operations in Hungary, Abu Dhabi, Malta and the United Kingdom. A further 285 machines are expected to be delivered for European activities alone. A special feature is the only widebody in the fleet: The Airbus A330F is operated on behalf of the Hungarian government.
According to Robert Carey, President of the Wizz Air Group, the aim is to use the increasing demand to become the market leader in the low-cost segment in the Middle East and Europe. Main competitors are for example Ryanair and Easyjet. Larger expansion steps are to be taken in the coming year. The manager explained to Reuters, among other things, that the frequencies will be increased on many routes and at the same time numerous new admissions will be made. But Carey didn't go into detail.
Great growth potential is seen in Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia in particular. The group of companies wants to set up an offshoot in the latter country. Wizz Air Abu Dhabi should serve as a template. For legal reasons, the Wizz Air Group will formally only be a minority shareholder in the planned new company.
