Strategies for securing European airspace: EASA and Eurocontrol present action plan against signal interference

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) have published a joint comprehensive action plan to strengthen the resilience of European air traffic to increasing interference with GNSS satellite navigation systems. This initiative is a response to the significant increase in signal interference, particularly near conflict zones.

Eurowings expands flight capacity for the Easter holidays

The airline Eurowings is preparing for a significant surge in passenger numbers at the start of the Easter holidays in 2026. The company expects around 200.000 passengers on the first weekend of the holidays alone. To meet this high demand, the airline increased its flight schedule to approximately 500 departures per day, coinciding with the start of the summer flight plan on April 1st.

Cologne/Bonn Airport expects high passenger numbers for Easter travel.

With the start of the Easter holidays on March 27, 2026, Cologne/Bonn Airport is preparing for the first major travel surge of the year. The airport operator expects a total of approximately 485.000 passengers by April 12. A particularly high volume of traffic is anticipated over the Easter weekend, from Good Friday to Easter Monday, with around 123.000 travelers expected.

Cologne/Bonn Airport is modernizing its apron infrastructure with millions in EU funding.

Cologne/Bonn Airport is embarking on a comprehensive modernization of its operational infrastructure. The airport will receive record funding of €9,75 million from the European Union for a package of five major projects. These funds are being provided by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) under the “Connecting Europe” program.

Eurowings integrates Lufthansa Group Travel ID into the booking system

The airline Eurowings has activated the Lufthansa Group Travel ID as a new registration method for its passengers. As the company announced, this step enables stronger networking within the group, which also includes Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Swiss, and Brussels Airlines. Using the central Travel ID will allow personal profile data to be shared.

Eurowings launches interline cooperation with Aegean Airlines

German airline Eurowings has officially launched a new strategic partnership with Greek market leader Aegean Airlines. Under this interline agreement, the Lufthansa subsidiary is integrating numerous Greek domestic routes into its own distribution network. Passengers now have the option of booking connecting flights to smaller Greek islands such as Kefalonia, Leros, Mytilene, Naxos, and others.

Eurowings has announced a significant expansion of its services for Lufthansa Group frequent flyers. Effective immediately, HON Circle members and Senators will benefit from additional preferential conditions when booking flights with the subsidiary. Ryanair adds Cologne/Bonn-Rimini to its route

Irish airline Ryanair is expanding its services at Cologne/Bonn Airport with a new route to the Italian Adriatic coast, just in time for the peak travel season. Starting June 1, 2026, the city of Rimini will be served three times a week. The exclusivity of this route is noteworthy: it is Ryanair's only direct connection to Italy.
