El Al: Children only pay the taxis

The airline El Al is currently trying to encourage more families to travel. To this end, they are offering children up to and including 12 years of age to fly for free. However, there is a catch to this offer, as the only thing the Israeli carrier is waiving is the so-called net air fare. Taking children on board is therefore not completely free. El Al asks for payment for airport fees and other personal taxes, among other things. In Israel, it is legal to advertise the net air fare. In the European Union, this was also permitted until the legal basis was changed, but for many years gross final prices have had to be stated. Nevertheless, tickets for families who want to fly to/from Tel Aviv should be cheaper, as the pure flight price (net air fare) is reduced to zero for children up to and including 12 years of age. This results in a certain saving. The offer is available on selected routes during the promotional period.

Verdict: Mask requirement can entitle a cancellation of a package tour

A mask requirement in public spaces can mean that package tour customers are entitled to withdraw from the contract. The Düsseldorf District Court had to deal with a lawsuit by a family who had canceled a trip to Mallorca in June 2020. The defendant tour operator did not want to accept the argument that a comprehensive mask requirement in the hotel complex, but also in public spaces in summer temperatures, is unreasonable and charged the usual cancellation fee. The father of the family took the case to court and won in the first instance before the Düsseldorf District Court. The decisive factor in the decision, however, was that the travel contract was concluded at a time when a mask requirement was not yet an issue. In other words: the trip was booked before the pandemic. For a long period of time, Mallorca required that masks must also be worn in public spaces. Since the mask requirement has now become "naturalized", it is not to be expected that this argument could still justify a free cancellation of the trip for bookings made this year. The tour operator could counter that wearing a mask is also compulsory in many places in the home country.

Salzburg: Wizz Air is also postponing Kiev again

The Salzburg comeback of the Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air will be even smaller than previously announced. Only the Bulgarian Black Sea city of Varna is to be offered in summer 2021. The start is to take place on June 13, 2021. A few days ago, a report by Aviation Direct revealed that the announced connection to St. Petersburg had been postponed to September 19, 2021. If this date holds, Wizz Air would be around a year late. Now the planned start of the non-stop connection to the inner-city Kiev-Zhuliany airport is also affected. After several postponements, this was announced for the end of June 2021. This will not happen this time either, because Wizz Air has now announced this route for September 17, 2021. This means that the comeback of the low-cost airline, which surprisingly started some Salzburg routes last year that were discontinued after a few rotations, will be considerably smaller. It is unclear whether the recording date for Varna-Salzburg-Varna will be kept.

Budapest: Wizz Air and Buzz are expanding again

The airlines Wizz Air and Buzz have reactivated numerous routes from Budapest in recent days. The Ryanair subsidiary resumed flights to a total of 16 destinations. The Hungarian competitor has seven destinations. The Polish Buzz is again flying to Athens, Bristol, Cagliari, Catania, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Lisbon, Madrid, Marseille, Mykonos, Naples, Palermo, Paphos, Porto, Seville and Valencia on behalf of Ryanair. In June 2021, the carrier will operate a total of 35 rotations per week. 2021 weekly rotations are planned for July and August 47. Meanwhile, Wizz Air resumed seven routes over the weekend. These are Podgorica, Luqa (Malta), Lisbon, Catania, Barcelona, ​​Bari and Gothenburg. In addition, frequencies on numerous Budapest routes are to be increased. The bottom line is that 3.992 more seats are to be offered per week.

Nouvelair is expanding towards Germany

This summer, the airline Nouvelair plans to fly to the German destinations Frankfurt am Main, Hanover, Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn and Berlin-Brandenburg. In Switzerland, Geneva is on the flight schedule. According to a press release, the carrier, which comes from Tunisia, is primarily focusing on so-called ethnic traffic. It is hoped that Tunisians living in Germany will use the flight connections to visit their homeland. Entry regulations are currently still restrictive, so tourist use is likely to play a minor role. The new flights are offered from Tunis and partly from Monastir. Tickets can already be booked via the Nouvelair website. The airline was founded in 1996 and currently operates ten Airbus A320-200s. The average age of the fleet is 14,9 years.

But it wasn't just the passengers who were excited; the crews of the Eurowings planes were also happy about the start of normality. Belarus: “EU has taken over the market and business by force”

The EU flight ban for airlines based in Belarus has been officially in force since Saturday. The state-owned Belavia is the first to be affected. The airline has strongly criticized the EU Commission's decision and stated, among other things, that the measure violates international aviation law. In a TV interview with the state-run ONT station, the head of the aviation department of the Belarus Ministry of Transport even said that the sanctions imposed by the European Union represented a "violent takeover of the business and the market". Belavia had to cancel all flights that would use EU airspace or land at an airport in the Union. Belavia wants to reorient itself and primarily fly to destinations in Russia and other CIS countries. Nevertheless, it is obviously hoping that the EU Commission will end the sanctions as quickly as possible. It is also noteworthy that the TV interview did not mention any possible claims for damages.

Cabo Verde Airlines announces comeback

The airline Cabo Verde Airlines will emerge from its slumber on June 18, 2021. The carrier's aircraft have not taken off commercially since March 2020. The government supported the company with financial aid. For the time being, the route to Lisbon will be reactivated. However, only one rotation per week will be flown initially. Other destinations such as Boston and Paris will follow on June 28, 2021. Due to the corona pandemic and the comparatively extremely restrictive entry regulations, Cabo Verde Airlines has not been able to fly commercially since March 2020. The airline's fleet currently consists of three Boeing 757-200s. These have the registrations D4-CCF, D4-CCG and D4-CCH. The D4-CCF and the D4-CCH are currently being prepared for their commercial comeback. The D4-CCG is to remain in long-term storage - at least for the time being.

Survey: Austrians do not expect the pandemic to end quickly

At least 14 percent expect that new mutations will lead to lockdowns again, for example in autumn 2021. 71 percent of respondents answered that they assume that the virus will remain permanently, but that people will learn to live with it through vaccinations and new treatments. Thus, 85 percent of survey participants believe that the corona pandemic is far from over. Almost no one is apparently expecting a return to complete normality, as announced by Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) for summer 2021. 500 people were surveyed, with a fluctuation range of 4,4 percent.
