Linz is the only airport in Austria to be able to make significant gains in the aviation sector in the “Corona year 2020”. The other airports, including Vienna, saw a sharp decline in this segment. In contrast to Germany, there was no “cargo boom” in the Alpine republic – quite the opposite, as the airports together suffered a sharp decline. Linz is an exception, however, as the airport was able to grow by around 37 percent, contrary to the “Austrian trend”. Since the beginning of March alone, over 40 charter rotations have been handled and the boom is continuing. Linz Airport Cargo was thus once again able to impressively underline its leading position at the top of Austria’s regional cargo airports and 11th place within the entire DA-CH region. “We have literally grown out of the pandemic and, with full commitment, flexibility and a high level of service quality, have managed to convince our customers and make the almost impossible possible. “Linz Airport Cargo, with its central location, has once again proven itself to be a reliable partner, especially in these extraordinary times, and has made a name for itself internationally,” says a delighted Norbert Draskovits, Managing Director of Flughafen Linz GesmbH. Cargo flight connection with Turkish Cargo from Linz In addition to the regular cargo flight connection that has existed for years - with DHL ExpressAustria from Linz to Leipzig or Belgrade and Brussels (5 days of operation per week) - Linz Airport was able to gain an additional regular cargo carrier at the beginning of the pandemic in April 2020. Turkish Cargo flies twice a week from Linz to Istanbul with a Boeing B777F and an Airbus A330F.
