The Dutch airline KLM has recently started using artificial intelligence in the area of catering planning. The aim is to use special IT tools to ensure that less food is wasted.

According to the company, the AI programs are intended to predict how many passengers actually want to use the catering. This allows the exact number of meals needed to be calculated and KLM achieves up to 63 percent less food waste based on the expected number of passengers per flight. On an annual basis, this represents a saving of more than 100.000 kg of meals, according to the carrier.
