For the first time since the beginning of the corona pandemic, the airline Cathay Pacific can announce that it has posted a half-year profit. Not only the increased demand, but also the partial sale to Air China is said to have led to this.

The latter carrier has joined Cathay Pacific for the equivalent of 220 million euros. For this they received around 1,9 percent of the shares. The deal was carried out in particular because the airline, which is based in the Chinese special administrative region, urgently needed fresh money.

Demand from/to mainland China is said to have increased sharply. Furthermore, one benefited from more expensive ticket prices. In the first half of the current fiscal year, 6,3 million passengers were on board. The group is currently assuming that it will make a profit of 400 million euros this year. In the previous year there was a deficit of 840 million euros.
