The airline Cathay Pacific will no longer employ pilots in the British capital London. The closure of the base there was already apparent for a few weeks, but has only now been officially confirmed.

The carrier from Hong Kong wants to reduce costs by giving up crew bases abroad. Those in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Germany have already fallen victim to the red pen. Although alternative jobs are to be offered in Hong Kong, this should be an attractive solution for only a few. Foreign pilots' salaries were cut some time ago.

The crew bases that are maintained in the United States of America are also being scrutinized. These are the last ones outside of Hong Kong. Around 140 pilots would be affected by a possible closure. A final decision has not yet been made.
