Cebu Pacific cooperates with Lufthansa subsidiary

The low-cost airline Cebu Pacific and the Lufthansa subsidiary Jettainer have been working together since October 2020. The German provider will take over the control and maintenance of the loading equipment fleet. With this partnership, Jettainer is acquiring the airline's existing ULD fleet, which consists of around 2.700 containers.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Cebu Pacific has been working to drive its transition to more efficient operations. At the same time, the airline is implementing measures such as digitization and optimization of operational processes, in combination with the use of supply chain solutions, to reduce costs.

"As we continue to expand our global position, we are always looking for growth opportunities. With this in mind, we have had extensive discussions about the possibilities of outsourcing our ULD fleet. Jettainer's total package of innovation, transparency and absolute reliability convinced us to entrust our business to them. We believe this move will enable us to reallocate and prioritize resources and capital in a way that supports our recovery course," says Michael Ivan Shau, Chief Operations Officer at Cebu Pacific, adding: "The contract with Jettainer also contributes to our ongoing optimization process, as their advanced technology and loading equipment provide us with the much-needed flexibility to implement our growth strategy."

Cebu Pacific intends to switch to a fully containerized fleet of Airbus jets consisting of the A320neo, A321neo and the A330 family. An ATR2017-72 cargo aircraft has also been in use since 500. It is the first pure freighter of this type in the Philippines. A second machine of this type is to be added at the end of the year.

“With Cebu Pacific, we welcome the leading Philippine airline to our customer base. We are pleased that we were able to convince CEB of the high value of our ULD management service, as well as the fact that such a service can be implemented with a seamless onboarding process even in these difficult times. In order to fully support our new partner in the Jettainer way and to continue our growth strategy for Asia, we are preparing a dedicated team in Manila, ”says Thomas Sonntag, Managing Director of Jettainer GmbH.

The ATR is certainly not Indonesia's first freighter as it says in the text; Cebu Pacific is at home in the Philippines.
