The two-week autumn vacation begins in North Rhine-Westphalia on Saturday, October 9th. During this period, the airport expects around 440.000 passengers, which corresponds to almost two thirds of the comparable period of the pre-crisis year 2019.

On October 10th, the airport is preparing for a particularly high number of visitors. On this day, around 31.000 passengers are said to fly via CGN. “We are pleased that we can again offer our numerous passengers around 80 destinations in 30 countries during the autumn holidays. The people's desire to travel can be clearly felt ”, says Johan Vanneste, CEO of Flughafen Köln / Bonn GmbH.

On average, a total of around 190 take-offs and landings of passenger planes take place every day during the autumn holidays. The most popular travel destination during the autumn holidays is Turkey with 125.000 passengers. This is followed by Spain with 105.000 travelers, more than half of which are in Palma de Mallorca, Italy (50.000 passengers) and Greece (35.000 passengers).

Passengers should inform themselves in advance about the Corona requirements applicable to their travel destination and be at the airport at least two hours before departure. Because there are still a large number of Corona-related requirements and special regulations that have a significant influence on the processes related to flying, for example at the check-in or in the security check. The airport has also taken measures to this end and, for example, increased the staff in aircraft handling by 70 employees. "Nevertheless, there may occasionally be longer waiting times in particularly busy hours."

New automatic bag drop

In order to simplify the check-in processes, there is an important innovation in Terminal 1: Two new self-bag drop stations will go into operation there this week. For the first time, Eurowings customers can check in independently and completely contactlessly, label their luggage with an appropriate label and then check it in without any check-in staff.
