Some time ago, China Eastern Airlines took delivery of its first Comac C919 jet. However, it was not used commercially until Sunday, May 28, 2023. The premiere flight was from Shanghai to Beijing Capital.

According to official information, there were 9191 passengers on board China-Eastern flight MU130. The C919 medium-haul jet is China's answer to the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320. One wants to make oneself independent of foreign machines with this model, but also get involved in the international market.

There are currently more than 500 firm orders. The vast majority comes from within Germany and was made by state or indirectly state-controlled airlines and lessors. Internationally, the whole big breakthrough has not yet happened. Still, the first commercial flight, operated by China Eastern Airlines on Sunday, is a major success for China's aviation program. Development began in 2008, the first test flight was conducted in 2017 and in 2023 the first unit has now entered commercial scheduled service.
