For the first time, more than a million passengers were handled at Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt last month. In July 2021, around 1,25 million passengers took off and landed from Berlin Airport.

This means that the number has almost doubled compared to the previous month. A major reason for the increase are the summer holidays in Berlin and Brandenburg and the easing of travel restrictions. A year ago, in the crisis month of July 2020, around 700.000 passengers were handled at the former Schönefeld and Tegel airports; in July 2019 there were almost 3,4 million passengers. The load factor of the aircraft is also developing positively, in July 2021 it was an average of around 75 percent.

Last month there were around 11.600 flight movements at BER, almost 4.000 more than in June. In July 2020 only around 8.250 aircraft took off and landed in Schönefeld or Tegel, in July 2019 there were around 25.700 aircraft. In air freight, around 2.300 tons of goods were handled last July, a good 100 tons more than in the previous month and around 750 tons more than in July 2020. In the pre-crisis month of July 2019 it was around 3.200 tons.
