So far, Niceair has only been able to operate one flight from Akureyri to the United Kingdom. Since then, the charter flights operated by Hifly Malta have been suspended. According to the company, there are problems with the approval. These would have been “related to Brexit” and therefore not foreseeable.

Temporarily, passengers with valid tickets are rebooked on connections with other airlines. According to local media reports, there is a problem with the approval of charter flights, as these are currently only approved from Akureyri to London-Stansted. But not the return flights. As a result, you would have to fly back to Iceland empty. In addition, with Hifly Malta, an EU carrier is operational, so that bilateral agreements between the UK and Iceland are required.

Niceair boss Þorvaldur Lúðvik Sigurjónsson hopes that a solution can be found in the next few days. For the first flight last Friday, an exemption was granted for carriage to the UK, but not back. The announced Manchester flights were not even included for this reason. Niceair cannot currently estimate how long the complications due to a lack of approval will last.
