The holiday airline Condor is testing the paid reservation of overhead lockers on some routes. The option will be available on select routes served by Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
In the last few years, the trend has prevailed, particularly on short and medium-haul routes, that checked baggage is no longer included in the cheapest economy class fares. Some low-cost airlines, but also Condor, have now even reduced the maximum dimensions of hand luggage considerably. Irrespective of this: Those who board the plane late sometimes have problems finding free storage space for their hand luggage on fully booked flights.
Condor is testing the paid advance reservation of overhead lockers on departures from November 1, 2022. This option can only be booked on selected routes served by Airbus A330-200 aircraft. The minimum price for the reserved overhead bin is 9,99 euros. Dynamic pricing applies, i.e. the price depends on supply and demand.
For the cabin crews, the Condor test run could lead to significantly more work. It can be assumed that there will be one or two discussions on board when other passengers place their hand luggage in an overhead bin that is reserved for a fee. Presumably for this reason, the holiday airline is testing the new option for the first time.
“Many travelers are familiar with the situation: You are sitting at the gate, boarding begins and you are wondering whether your hand luggage will still find a place in the overhead compartment. Condor guests can now look forward to this in a relaxed manner and simply reserve their own luggage compartment online in advance - ideally directly in combination with a seat. This makes flying even more relaxed,” says Condor Managing Director Ralf Teckentrup.
Reservations can be made up to 48 hours before the scheduled departure at www.condor.com under "My booking" and up to three hours before departure at online check-in. One baggage compartment can be reserved per passenger. The luggage compartments reserved in this way are marked accordingly on board.
