A Boeing 747 in the colors of Corendon Airlines has been parked near Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport for several years. The decommissioned jumbo jet has now become the landmark of the "Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport", a hotel located just a few minutes' drive from the largest airport in the Netherlands.
It is a large accommodation divided into several buildings. It is officially classified as a four-star hotel, but it can certainly compete with five-star hotels, as in some areas it is at least on a par with the range and service on offer. The Corendon airport hotel has a lot to offer.
Boeing 747 in the hotel garden
The highlight is probably the Boeing 747 mentioned at the beginning. This was bought by the Corendon Group a few years ago and was thus possibly saved from being scrapped. Hotel guests can also view the jumbo jet from the inside. External persons must purchase an entrance ticket at reception. Although this decommissioned Boeing 747 is painted in the colors of Corendon Airlines, the group has never had such a model in its fleet. The cabin has largely been preserved in the original from the previous operator KLM. This aircraft, built in 1989, was in use for the Skyteam member as PH-BFB until 2018.
The Corendon Hotel Amsterdam-Schiphol regularly offers hotel guests expert tours through and around the exhibit. Times and registrations can be requested at reception. It is also possible to book the Boeing 747 for events. It can get very hot in the summer months, especially on the upper deck, because the externally installed air conditioning is not usually in use. The one that would be installed at the factory has been de facto shut down for many years due to the lack of real engines.
wellness area and self-service supermarket
The Boeing 747 in the hotel garden is definitely the highlight of the Corendon Hotel Amsterdam-Schiphol, but it has much more to offer. If you are not interested in the parked aircraft and would rather watch active machines, you can get a good view of parts of the apron at Schiphol Airport from the roof terrace. Depending on the weather, even die-hard spotters can get their money's worth here, as the conditions for good photos are actually ideal. If you are not interested in that, you can still enjoy a drink or coffee here.
The hotel garden is attractively designed and invites you to linger. Drinks can be purchased in the restaurant, at the bars or in the self-service supermarket. The latter is open around the clock and offers a rudimentary basic range for travelers. Snacks, drinks and possibly useful travel items are available. Buyers simply take the products from the shelf, scan and pay for them with a card at a self-service terminal and that's it.
Private cinema in the basement
In the basement of the main building of the large airport hotel there is an in-house cinema. Regular screenings for guests are held here. Of course the room can also be rented for events. In general, the Corendon Schiphol offers many options for seminars and conferences. This segment appears to be an important mainstay for the hotel.
The proximity to Schiphol Airport also seems to be a real guarantee for a constant basic capacity occupancy for a completely different reason: in the event of flight irregularities such as cancellations and significant delays, many airlines, including KLM, accommodate passengers here. Accordingly, it is not surprising that buses full of stranded passengers regularly arrive. Corendon itself offers a free shuttle bus between Schiphol Airport and the hotel vice versa. This is operated by a low-floor bus that runs according to a fixed timetable.
Especially if you are stranded, you will definitely appreciate the wellness and sports facilities at the Corendon Schiphol. There is a lot on offer, for example, a large pool is available to guests. There is also a sauna and various sports and fitness facilities. Treatments and massages can be booked for an additional charge. The exact offer can be requested from the staff.
Large rooms and good food
The hotel rooms are extremely spacious and packed with numerous small details. The beds are large, wide and comfortable. Facilities for making tea and coffee are provided for your physical well-being. Of course, a minibar is a must in a hotel of this category. But be careful: the prices in the hotel's own self-service supermarket are lower than those directly in the room. The bathroom is very attractively designed. Everything you need is available.
The cuisine at the Corendon Amsterdam-Schiphol is the second real highlight on offer. Both breakfast and the food in the restaurants are extensive and extremely tasty. It is clear that the airline is trying to offer a lot of food from Corendon's country of origin, Turkey. Combined with local specialties from the Netherlands and international dishes, this results in a very good selection of high quality. The price is not particularly expensive, but definitely not cheap either. However, it is quite reasonable for what is on offer. It is worth taking advantage of the breakfast and treating yourself to dinner, for example, especially if you are a stranded passenger and the airline will pay for it anyway.
Conclusion: A hotel that can be fun
During our visit, the Corendon Schiphol was impeccably clean in all areas. The staff were always friendly and helpful. If you want to criticize it: The bus timetable for the shuttle bus could be hung up in paper form at the airport or in the hotel so that it is easier to find, so that travelers who may not have a data volume can use it more easily. This would not be such a problem in the hotel itself, because fast and free WiFi is available.
It is clear that Corendon actually specializes in holiday hotels. The options they offer for overnight stays are accordingly extensive. Basically, you can spend a few nice, comfortable days here without visiting the city of Amsterdam, which is a bit awkward to reach by public transport from this hotel. The only question is: do you want to go on a city trip, relax in the hotel or spot from the roof terrace? Everything is possible in this hotel.
