Corendon is once again cutting back the 2022/23 winter flight schedule

The airlines Corendon Airlines (Turkey) and Corendon Airlines Europe (Malta) are significantly reducing their presence in the DA-CH region in the 2022/23 winter timetable. The two airlines have canceled an enormous number of routes and some drastic cuts have been made on those that remain.

A total of three airlines operate under the Corendon brand. These are the Turkish Corendon Airlines, which flies under the IATA two-letter code XC, the Maltese Corendon Airlines Europe, which flies under XR, and Corendon Dutch Airlines, whose designator is CD. The latter company was intended to be sold some time ago, but the deal fell through and resulted in a legal dispute.

The Turkish airline mainly offers flight connections between Turkey and other European countries under its XC code. The obvious focus here is the Germany-Austria-Switzerland region, with the lion's share of the capacity being used for routes to Germany. It is therefore not surprising that the string concert between Germany and Turkey has an above-average impact.

Corendon Airlines does not provide any information as to why the 2022/23 winter flight schedule was cut so severely in several steps. There are no routes at almost all airports that you fly to in Germany. Further routes are acutely on the brink, because the sale of air tickets has been stopped in the meantime. Furthermore, on some routes that are to be continued, the frequencies are being reduced significantly in some cases or are only being operated around Christmas and New Year. It was only recently announced that the Turkish carrier had ordered seven Boeing 737-800s as part of a wet lease contract for Indian low-cost airline Spicejet will operate.

Maltese Corendon Europe is also making cutbacks again

There are also significant cuts in the 2022/23 winter flight schedule for the EU offshoot Corendon Europe, which operates under the XR code. Denmark, Germany, Austria and Switzerland are particularly badly affected. It is particularly noticeable that there are no flights to the Canary Islands from many airports. These are traditionally in high demand during the cold season.

Many other routes are acutely on the brink, because these have already been canceled in the reservation system. However, there is no official confirmation from Corendon Airlines Europe that these routes will also be discontinued. In the past, this provider showed that "zeroing out" was followed a few days later by hiring. The airline did not comment on the reasons for the massive cuts. Corendon Europe's numerous remaining routes will be cut, in some cases significantly, in line with the Turkish parent company. Some routes are only served during the period between Christmas and New Year. The affiliated company Corendon Dutch Airlines has made comparatively few cuts or cuts.

A striking number of wet lease aircraft in summer 2022

In the summer months, the Corendon airlines were almost omnipresent at the airports in the DA-CH region. However, the fleets of the three carriers are significantly smaller than one would assume. The Turkish Corendon Airlines operates 20 Boeing 737 series aircraft. These are 14 Boeing 737-800 and six B737-Max-8. The wet lease currently has one A321, six A320s and five Boeing 737-800s.

The fleet of Maltese Corendon Europe consists of 15 Boeing 737-800. Furthermore, one currently has an A320, a B737-800 and a B737-700 in wet lease. The Dutch Corendon Dutch Airlines operates three Boeing 737-800. In the wet lease you have another machine of this type.

During the summer months of 2022, the Corendon Group airlines had significantly more ACMI aircraft in use. At times there was more "external capacity" than self-operated aircraft in the air. In May 2022 it was even announced that the Airbus A330 with the registration 9H-LEON for 18 months in a wet lease takes and even wants to go long-distance with it. In the meantime, this aircraft is no longer used for Corendon, but Airhub uses the machine for Air Senegal. Both Corendon and Airhub do not want to comment on this and refuse to provide information about the current status of the cooperation.

Enormously long "scratch list"

The extent of the string concert by Corendon Europe and Corendon Airlines as of October 25, 2022 is shown below. For reasons of a better overview, the routes that have been canceled are listed first, followed by those that are on the brink and then those on which there are frequency cuts or only temporary services.

Some of the canceled routes will have individual circulations in the winter of 2022/23. This circumstance will not be discussed in detail, since all routes had previously been sold throughout the entire 2022/23 winter period.
