Corona: Fraport applies nano-coatings in Varna and Burgas

Advertising

At the Varna and Burgas airports operated by Fraport, nano-coatings are currently being applied to surfaces with which passengers and staff frequently come into contact. According to the operator, these should offer antimicrobial protection.

It is the product “Liquid Guard” developed in Germany. The protective layer should protect against viruses, microbes and bacteria in the long term. The manufacturer relies on studies that should certify an effectiveness of around one year. The antimicrobial coating is intended to keep all objects sterile and can only be removed with abrasion.

Frequently touched surfaces in airport terminals are cleaned with liquid disinfectant this week. The ultra-thin, breathable 3D mesh helps in long-term disinfection and protection from all types of bacteria and microbes on a range of surfaces such as doors, countertops, computers, counters, tables, seats, luggage carts and trays for placing items if one Security check is passed. Wheelchairs, vehicles, passenger stairs, bathrooms, etc.

"The most important thing for us is to provide our passengers with a safe environment, as well as a sense of security and concern for their health. We are implementing the most innovative technological solutions to show passengers that crossing airports and traveling by plane does not pose a health risk. We are constantly working to improve the situation at airports by setting higher cleanliness requirements, using new technologies and evaluating all processes in which we can intervene and improve our passenger service and the workplace of our employees," said Frank Quante, Director of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD. Varna Airport will be treated with the nanopreparation on November 12 and Burgas Airport on November 13.
