In the run-up to the meeting of EU tourism ministers on March 1, 2021, the European aviation and tourism associations appeal for the Portuguese EU Council Presidency to advocate uniform coordination of the Corona measures.

14 associations, including the Cockpit Association, demand that the EU Commission and the governments implement the following points in order to be able to ensure a Europe-wide coordination of travel restrictions, vaccination certificates and test requirements. This is intended to reduce the negative effects on aviation and tourism.

  • Widespread use of affordable, reliable and fast tests to ease current travel restrictions
  • Removal of quarantine requirements for air travelers who have already tested negative
  • Clear and understandable information about when and exceptions to COVID-19 tests
  • Exemption of vaccinated travelers from testing, quarantines and other restrictions
  • Requirement of vaccinations not as a prerequisite for travel, but as an aid for resuming air travel.

"Hundreds of thousands of jobs are currently at risk," says Markus Wahl, President of the Cockpit Association. “The EU can take countermeasures here, but it must now finally act forcefully. A clear and concise package of coordinated actions across Europe can restore public confidence and is the only chance to save the coming summer season. If the EU coordinates the necessary restrictions comprehensively in the future and thus keeps them as low as possible, we can revive our industry ”.
