The delta variant of the coronavirus is evidently proving to be particularly heat-resistant, because the incidences are also increasing in regions where it is currently particularly hot. This is a major concern for the Spanish tourism industry, as it is confronted with large-scale cancellations.
Germany is considered to be one of the most important source markets for Spanish tourism and it is precisely this market that is now shaky. The background to this is that the Federal Republic of Germany continues to make the corona ratings almost exclusively based on the so-called seven-day incidence. The numbers in Spain are currently high and it is feared that the high incidence or virus variant area brand marks could soon be issued.
The consequence of this would be that unvaccinated people would have to be quarantined when they return to Germany. In virus variant areas, there are also transport bans and vaccinated people must - without the possibility of free testing - be in quarantine for 14 days. The mere fact that there is a "upgrade" in the room has a negative effect on the number of bookings. At the moment there are more cancellations than you can land new deals.
In the meantime, a second quarantine hotel has been put into operation in Mallorca. The background is that the first one is now hopelessly overcrowded. For tourism it is problematic that younger people who are not or not fully vaccinated want to go to the island. Currently they are Entry requirements for Germans, Swiss and large parts of Austria are rather lax. You don't need a test.
