Crif-Bürgel: The travel industry is facing a wave of bankruptcies

In Germany, around 1.800 companies from the travel industry are said to be at acute risk of insolvency. According to the credit agency Crif-Bürgel, the number of tour operators and agencies that are supposed to go bankrupt has risen by 31 percent.

According to the analysis, the total share of tourism companies with acute financial problems is around eight percent. According to its own information, the credit agency took a close look at the liquidity of around 22.600 agents and tour operators. Crif-Bürgel expects that the share of companies in risk of insolvency in this branch will increase to around ten percent.

According to the credit agency, significantly more companies from this industry had to go to the bankruptcy judge in 2020. The number of bankruptcies rose to 150. In 2019 there should have been 83 bankruptcies.
