The airline Croatia Airlines will not have its first Airbus A220 delivered in February 2024, but from June 2024 at the earliest. It is also assumed that they will only be able to fleet two aircraft of this type next year.
Croatia Airlines had originally planned to have up to three units in the air in the summer of 2024. But now there is a delay that results in a change to the schedule. The first unit is not scheduled to arrive in Zagreb until June 2024. There is no exact date for the second unit, but according to the carrier it should be next year.
The delay affects those aircraft that Croatia Airlines ordered through Air Lease Corporation. The leasing agreement covers four A220-300s and two A220-100s. The remaining aircraft are also to be leased, but the carrier has not yet communicated which company they will be purchased from. In the next few years, the Croatian aviation company wants to convert the fleet to 12 Airbus A220-300 and three A220-100.
In preparation for this, the search for buyers for the aircraft owned by the company has already begun. The company confirms that it has already sold five Airbus A320s and is leasing them back until the A220s are added to the fleet. All other aircraft are already leased from various companies.
In the future, Croatia Airlines will only operate the Airbus A220 aircraft. This also means the end of the de Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprop fleet. This is currently the backbone of short-haul routes. It is expressly not ruled out that, if necessary, one or two machines smaller than the A220-100 could be rented as part of wet lease agreements.
