Even before the corona pandemic, the airline Croatia Airlines was considered badly hit. In the near future, among others, the Ryanair subsidiary Lauda Europe will be an aggressively priced competitor in Zagreb and Zadar. The Star Alliance member will concentrate on the most important tourist routes in summer 2021.

According to the announcement from Croatia Airlines, the routes to Amsterdam, Athens, Brussels, Dublin, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, London Heathrow, Munich, Paris, Rome, Sarajevo, Skopje, Vienna and Zurich will be served. There are frequent flights to Frankfurt am Main and Zurich, as the partners Lufthansa and Swiss have hubs here.

The carrier is particularly well positioned in Split and Dubrovnik. Various destinations in Western Europe are to be served from there. According to Croatia Airlines, it was also able to land orders for around 200 charter flights in Austria, Italy, Ireland, Scandinavia and Israel.

Competitor Ryanair brought a lawsuit against the financial support that Croatia had given due to the corona pandemic. Croatia Airlines is now countering and wants to have the discounts granted by the airports in Zagreb and Zadar checked. Obviously, a lengthy legal battle is looming. Croatia is attracting new airlines with reduced airport fees.
