The aircraft manufacturer Deutsche Aircraft has agreed to work with Factorydesign for the cabin interior of the new edition of the Dornier 328, which is currently under development. According to the media statement, the focus is on the topic of sustainability.
The Dornier 328 was once considered the "Mercedes of the air" and should also live up to this claim as the D328eco. The flight deck should reflect the latest state of the art. New trim and equipment are used in the cabin.
The focus on sustainability also applies to the equipment in the cabin. Factorydesign was commissioned to create a completely new interior, including walls, ceilings, overhead bins, a new and attractive look in the boarding area, as well as a galley, toilet and bespoke seats.
The aim is to redefine the cabin through design features, paying attention to sustainable materials and processes while considering the needs of the passengers, crew and operator.
“It is clear that the future success of aviation depends on aircraft manufacturers paying attention to sustainability and the passenger experience and offering airlines options to increase their flexibility. So we are very excited to be working for Deutsche Aircraft on the new cabin interior of their D328eco aircraft,” says Peter Tennent, Commercial Director, Factorydesign.
Redesigning seats, storage compartments, trim panels and lighting can save weight and thereby reduce the aircraft's fuel consumption. Certified materials for components that are either recycled or recyclable reduce raw material consumption. Alternative manufacturing techniques allow resources to be used more efficiently.
Sustainability doesn't stop with weight savings and alternative materials. Passenger comfort also plays an important role in offering airlines a sustainable product. “We are looking for ways to improve the customer experience. Passengers should expect to be cared for, made to feel safe and have an experience they'll want to return to, not just endure," said Adrian Berry, Creative Director at Factorydesign.
Houda El Mektoumi, Head of Cabin and Cargo at Deutsche Aircraft, explains: “The cabin design is the business card of an aircraft and of every airline. Together with Factorydesign, our cabin engineering team will ensure that the high level of comfort and design of long-haul jets is also maintained in regional aircraft. Passengers will enjoy a flawless flight experience in the D328eco and will be amazed by the unique, sustainable cabin design. We are certain that together with Factorydesign we can open a new chapter in short-haul air travel."
