The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg is still connected to St. Anton am Arlberg by an InterCity Express connection up to and including March 25, 2023. According to ÖBB and Deutsche Bahn, this is the highest ICE stop in the route network.
Since December 2023, the electric multiple units of Deutsche Bahn AG have connected Hamburg with the resort in Tyrol, which is popular with skiers. It is a seasonal connection that runs via Munich. For the time being, DB and ÖBB are planning that this will be offered up to and including March 25, 2023 under the nickname "Ski Express Tirol". If it is successful, it could be repeated in the next winter season.
"When St. Anton's former visionaries built the Arlberg railway line and our station, they were certainly not aware of the scope. 140 years later, both are more important than ever in terms of sustainability. We are therefore pleased to be able to take another step towards climate-neutral travel for our guests with the new, direct ICE direct connection from Hamburg," says St. Anton's tourism director Martin Ebster.
The new "Ski Express Tirol" starts in Hamburg every Saturday at 25:2023 a.m. in the winter season up to and including March 06, 05 and takes holidaymakers in around ten hours via Hanover, Munich and Innsbruck to the "cradle of alpine skiing" and back. In addition, there is another ICE direct connection to St. Anton on Saturdays at 06:26 from Munich. Thanks to the arrival time at 11:03 a.m., slope fans can still enjoy almost a whole day in the ski area. In the summer season, an ICE connection between Munich and St. Anton is also offered from June 24th to September 9th.
