Vienna's Danube river cruises have undergone a noticeable transformation in recent years, moving away from being purely a means of transport towards floating event venues that combine culinary experiences with themed entertainment.
A new addition to the DDSG Blue Danube shipping company's portfolio is the themed cruise "Elvis Forever – Rock in on the River." This event combines an evening cruise on the MS Admiral Tegetthoff with a live show dedicated to the King of Rock 'n' Roll, as well as a themed buffet. As the ship sails through Vienna's nighttime skyline, the focus on board is on the era of the 1950s to 1970s.
A musical journey through time with The Rolling Company
The highlight of the evening will be the performance by the Styrian band The Rolling Company. The ensemble specializes in presenting Elvis Presley's musical legacy not as a mere imitation, but as an energetic live performance. Their lineup includes classic instruments such as drums, bass, electric guitar, and piano, complemented by acoustic guitar and blues harp.
The band's repertoire covers the various phases of Presley's career, ranging from early rockabilly numbers and the Beat era of the 1960s to the flamboyant Las Vegas shows of the 1970s. Particular emphasis is placed on vocal performance and multi-part harmonies, aiming to capture the quintessential atmosphere of an Elvis concert. Interaction with the audience, who often appear in period-appropriate attire such as petticoats or leather jackets, is an essential element of the show.
Culinary offerings under the sign of the King
Alongside the musical performance, a buffet featuring American classics will be served, some of which are declared the musician's favorite dishes. The selection of appetizers includes, among other things, spicy chorizo wraps, hash brown bites with jalapeño filling, classic American coleslaw, and a cowboy salad with beans and corn.
The main course menu features meat dishes such as BBQ beef short ribs with wedges, various sliders, and marinated chicken skewers. A Texas Jailhouse chili con carne is also available. Vegetarian options include dishes like mac and cheese. The selection is complemented by various sauces such as Memphis BBQ sauce and sour cream. Desserts like apple crumble and chocolate brownies round out the meal. Beverages are ordered à la carte and charged separately, with the selection covering the usual onboard catering standards, from soft drinks to Austrian wines and beers.

Classification in comparison to other themed trips
A look at Aviation Direct's coverage shows that the DDSG is among a number of successful themed events with this concept. The portal has already reported on similar events such as... Hungarian Night or ABBA event. In comparison to the Hungarian Night, which focuses more on folkloric tradition and typical national cuisine, Elvis Forever is more geared towards party atmosphere and show elements.
Similar to the ABBA themed tour, As Aviation Direct also reported regarding the atmospheric implementation, the Elvis ride focuses on the combination of nostalgia and entertainment. While the autumnal game trip While the Elvis cruise appeals more to a culinary audience, the Rock 'n' Roll event targets a broader audience that values a complete experience of music and movement. These evening cruises are priced within a very narrow range. At around €69 per person, the Elvis cruise is exactly on par with the Country Barbecue cruise or the... Brunch offer on the Danube waves.
Critical review and price-performance ratio
An objective analysis of the service requires considering the entire package. The ticket price of €69 includes the approximately three-and-a-half-hour boat trip, the buffet, and the live music. In Vienna, a comparable buffet with high-quality meat options alone would cost between €30 and €40. When you factor in the entrance fee for a live band, which is often between €20 and €30 for comparable concerts on land, the price for the boat trip itself seems moderately calculated.
It should be noted, however, that drinks are not included. This means that the total cost per person can quickly rise to between 90 and 100 euros if you plan to enjoy wine or several cold drinks during the evening. Another point often criticized about Danube river cruises in Vienna is the route. Because of its size, the MS Admiral Tegetthoff is restricted to certain sections of the river. While the route between the Reichsbrücke bridge and the Greifenstein lock offers views of the Danube City skyline, it also includes time spent in less spectacular industrial areas and lock systems.
Anyone who is a fan of Elvis Presley's music and is looking for a convivial experience in a special setting will get solid value for their money. The band The Rolling Company is considered above average for the event sector in industry circles. The buffet offers a good variety, although it is a mass-produced item designed for the capacity of a large passenger ship. Compared to simply attending a concert, the cruise offers clear added value thanks to the added benefit of the boat trip, provided one is willing to factor in the additional costs for drinks.
The next Elvis ride is organized by DDSG. Announced for March 7, 2026.
