Delta Air Lines expands Australia offering with new direct connection to Melbourne

The US airline Delta Air Lines will add a new nonstop connection between Los Angeles and Melbourne to its route network in December 2025. The route will be served three times a week with an Airbus A350-900 and complements Delta's existing connections to Sydney and Brisbane.

With a distance of 12.750 kilometers and a flight time of around 15 hours, the new route is one of the longest in the airline's route network. Only the connections from Atlanta to Johannesburg and Cape Town are longer. Delta uses its Airbus A350-900 on the route, which offers four travel classes: Delta One Suites, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+ and the Main Cabin.

The new connection will increase competition on the popular route between the USA and Australia. In addition to Delta, United Airlines, American Airlines and Qantas also offer direct flights between Los Angeles and Melbourne. Experts expect that the additional capacity could have an impact on ticket prices and market shares.
