The US airline Delta has increased an existing Airbus A220-300 order by 12 aircraft. This means that a total of 107 copies of the A220 series have now been ordered, the company said in Farnborough.
Delta is therefore waiting for the delivery of 45 A220-100 and 62 A220-300. The aviation company took delivery of its first Airbus A2018 in October 220, becoming the first US airline to operate this type of aircraft. As of the end of June 2022, Delta operated a fleet of 388 Airbus aircraft, including 56 A220s, 249 A320 Family aircraft, 57 A330s and 26 A350-900s.
“The A220-300 is economical, efficient and offers excellent performance,” said Mahendra Nair, SVP – Fleet & TechOps Supply Chain at Delta. “These additional A220 Family aircraft are an excellent investment for our customers and employees and will be fundamental as we work towards a more sustainable future in aviation.”
"Delta was the first customer for the A220 in the US and it is great to announce this additional order which shows how satisfied the company is with the A220, both from an economic and passenger perspective," said Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International. “In addition, the versatility of this aircraft, with its long range and short-field performance, makes it a real winner for our customers. We thank Delta for their confidence in continuing to expand their fleet with our new generation aircraft!”
